this is a prototype for Capistrano III acrylic on canvas 14" x 10" it will hang (fly!) with many other birdies...
these will be on a wall...ceramic approx 8" long...with many other birdies...
and the red bird for Capistrano IV ...ceramic approx 8" long
this is an early version of my artist's statement for Capistrano IV:
I have been thinking a lot about enlightened society…some of the terms that are thrown around like “being one with the universe”. This “oneness” brings two thoughts to mind. First, if I had grown up with all of your exact circumstances maybe I would be you. We are not that different yet each unique. Second, I think about the beauty and strength of each individual and the power of many individuals working together, particularly for a positive goal. I suspect we can learn something from the other social creatures on this planet whereas sometimes I feel that we human's are the most invasive species of all, wrecking the mother earth for our survival...not to mention killing off other species entirely and killing each other (distresses me deeply).
This art installation is an attempt at learning from the birds and honoring them. I wanted to capture the essence of movement and that magical instant when an entire flock of birds, each a unique individual, working together, turn in midair at simultaneously.
and Capistrano III will be a collabortative project...this is my proposal to artists to join the project:
First I want to try to truly acknowledge where the inspiration for this project came from...1. Stephy's puffy things that we did at the pop up show...cutting up paintings and just sewing them into crazy shapes...2. Shelley's awesome little hearts she was sewing into little pillows to put into her purses...3. whip stitching that I did in girl scouts...the only sewing I ever felt competent at...4. my pillow I sleep on...I just kept thinking and dreaming about puffy things...5. Jonathon...the seagull that I swear to god I had a conversation with...6. the bird imprint that was on my studio window when I moved into this house...I keep thinking that little birdie gave his/her life for art...in my now current studio space 7. the blue jay that ate out of my hand in the mountains one day and I know we have a photo of it somewhere...and I keep thinking it is no mistake that I married a man named "Jay" who flies...and Capistrano...my obsession with the migratory story of those birds. There’s more but you might get bored.
I proposed "Capistrano IV" to the Longmont Museum which will be installed in late Feb...it is a installation of ceramic birds in their portal gallery that attempts to pay tribute to those birdies...the beauty and strength of each individual yet capture the power of the group...that instant when an entire flock of birds turns in midair simultaneously...my process is complex and I soo hope I get it down. I am pasting my artist state
Then I thought about us people/artists coming together in the
same way...Capistrano IV...and this is the thought...I will be the
"project manager and these are the parameters...all fabric, all bird
shapes and puffy, all approx 2x actual life size birds (for the sake of visual
consistency). What you would contribute...anything
on the fabric and "sewing" the edges in any gorgeous way you see
fit. I was so moved by our "POP UP" gallery and how six artists
who painted together for about two years (?) the work looked sooo good
together yet so unique individually....
My hope is that we get 10 artists more or less(I think I already have five
committed including me and one man, “Tony and the Chicks”…get it??) and each
artist does 10 birds (total 100m ore or less)...with an install date of June in
the Atrium at the Longmont Museum...hanging
on the ceiling with small hooks with fish line and maybe 3 or 4 from
each hook in different vertical dimensions...I am exploring several funding
options...1. a grant for $10,000 that I think I can get, we just divide it
equally, 2. A kickstarter campaign (I am
trying this with Capistrano III wish me luck)
or 3. Sell them off Capistrano style with a reunion show a year later
and a verbal commitment only to return them at the owners expense (if shipped
include return shipping)…OK so that’s it there are no guarantees about the
money…is there ever with art??? But out
of respect for my husband I am trying to work for more than 50cents/hour. I have planted a seed at the museum and will
be making a formal proposal next week I
hope they love it…Would love for YOU to be involved….Linda Gleitz
I will be meeting with the museum next week about the installation. Since nothing on this planet is actually permanent I would like to speak to the longevity of the project. My hope is that the museum will want it in their atrium indefinitely. If not I would propose to move it to another city building.
Úgy vélem, ezt a weboldalt tartalmaz néhány igazán jó infó mindenki számára.
